SP #18 Shakedown run on D&S

A shakedown run othe the D&S took place with SP 4-6-0 #18 on November 28, running unassisted from Durango to Rockwood.  On the 2.5% grade from Hermosa to Rockwood, it sounded good pulling two open passsenger cars, a flat car, and a caboose.

In Winter considering rail conditions and load maybe 5 beyond Rockwood, be a struggle to get 5 loaded
into Rockwood from Durango. Consider that the test train had 2 empty "open" passenger cars, a flat and
a caboose and was working hard from the road crossing to Rockwood.

How would the Colorado grades compare to the CA and NV desert line grades?  How many loaded or unloaded cars did she handle there?

And hey; the Colorado part of "Carson and Colorado" has finally kind of come true!

Thanks for the tip on the videos. I was hoping to see photos or video of the SP No. 18 next to a D&S regular for size comparison but haven't seen any yet.

When was the last time prior to this run that a locomotive with a four-wheel pilot truck operated on this line?

That would be the Eureka a few years ago ie a 4-4-0.
