Steam & Excursion > 1885 round house and moreDate: 12/07/18 23:21 1885 round house and more Author: C.P.Huntington Back again with a few more of my scribbles - color ones this time. I wasn't sure if I should post them here
in the Steam & Excursion section as these are both fictional scenes but one drawing does feature some steam locomotives so perhaps this is just as good place as any. Image 1 Several photos were combined to create this colored pencil drawing. Parts of two different roundhouses were combined to make the one you see here, plus a photo of each locomotive. The photo of the 4-8-0 as black and white so I just used colors that I thought would look good and might be appropriate for a locomotive of this era. Image 2 This is a scene from the 1/2" scale Delaware Valley Traction Company constructed by Trainorders.com member "Birdman". Head on over to the Model Railroad section of Trainorders.com and do a search for the "Delaware Valley Traction Company" if you want to see some top notch model railroading. You won't be disappointed! I thought the scene here looked a bit like something that Edward Hopper might have done. Water color paint and colored pencil were combined to create this image. Credit and my thanks go to Mr. Birdman for posting the photo used to make this drawing. In closing, I would like to wish all trainorders.com members a Merry Christmas and a happy new year! i prefer artistic interpretations for the character they convey. A technical comment is in order...the oil can would most probably be used to refill the the brass oil cups ( as illustrated) on the top of the two crosshead bars, as opposed to dribbling the oil onto the bars themselves. The oil cups have drain cocks at their base, and very small lube holes —— ( they are opened at the departure station, just before leaving) so that they can supply oil-drips for the duration of longer trips. Oil applied directly to the bars, gets pushed-off in one or two piston strokes. Thanks for taking the time to do the interpretation. W. Whenever I oil around, I fill the oil cups then run a bead of oil down the guides too. Can't hurt, oil is cheap. |
