Chelatchie Prairie loses 1, probably 2 weekends of Christmas runs
Author: Jim700

As the result of a dispute between Clark County in Washington State and Eric Temple's Portland Vancouver Junction Railroad the last two weekends of the Chelatchie Prairie Railroad's very popular Christmas trains are going to have a lot of very disappointed customers.  While there may be a glimmer of hope for the last weekend, this weekend has already been cancelled.

Sad to see things come to this.  Especially this time of year.

What exactly is wrong with people?  It's just a train ride. Not life and death. Add these government folks to the Scrooge list with Richard Anderson.

From what I can get from the article, the status of the lease from the Clark County (which owns the tracks) to Portland Vancouver Junction Railway (the operator) is unclear.  PVJR is not confident that they are still indemnified by the county for Chelatchie Prairie operations, so they told Chelatchie Prairie to stop running trains until the status of the lease is determined.

I suspect there is much more to it.

Lawyers closely reading contracts to determine whether a thread of liability can be traced back to their side....Same Old, Same Old
Not to blame the liability lawyers, but the plantiff's lawyers who convince jurys of the need for massive compensation for accidents ought to be buried 40 feet under.
Why 40 feet?  That is their usual contingency take in these settlements.
How to solve the problem: complain to the Clark County Board of Supervisors, it all comes together at their level.
