I didn't know what year Nostalgia starts, so putting this in the Steam section.  This was the first 3-day operation on the D&RGW in the final year
of operations.  483 and 493 had taken loads from Alamosa to Chama on June 4th, 1968, while 498 had brought empties from Durango the same day.  Now on June 5th 483 is leading a train up the 4% east of Chama at Cresco, Colorado as they head for the summit, and eventually to Alamosa.  The rear helper is back by the caboose in the second shot.  493 was the last engine we saw in freight service later that day, as it ran light to Alamosa from Antonito.  Interestingly, the locomotive is currently being restored to operation in Durango and should run in 2019.  Guess we have about come full circle!!!  483 is a K-36 class 2-8-2, and 493 is a class K-37 2-8-2 (rebuilt from standard gauge 2-8-0).  These engines were the mainstay on the narrow gauge for the last 20 years, along with a trio of K-28 2-8-2's. You'll see freaking C40-8's on the nostalgia board.  This is definitively nostalgia.  Great historical photos!  Thanks also for the operations info.
