It's not just faceplant. The best part is you get email notifications.

Listen you bunch of old crabasses!

Did you ever think they may be receiving some sort of revenue for their participation in social media? Did you ever consider they may be able to track how many people on social media are visiting the pages? That may just indeed give VALUE to UP for their steam program? You know, their own CEO says is mostly railfan stuff. I tend to think its a great tool to reach people outside of fans. And that means marketing. Which was, if I'm not completely mistaken, a major reason the biz trains exist to begin with?

Go get on fb or other social platforms. You may just learn something new. This coming from a 40 year old, 20 year railroader.

Off my soap box

Joe

I'm a 72-year-old who agrees with you!
I resisted joining Facebook ... until I found out it is the easiest way of keeping track of my grandkids ... who live in British Columbia, New Brunswick, Ontario and Arizona.

I’m 81 years old and have been on FB for about 10 years and know full well that anything I post is tracked sliced and diced and marketed and etc but have been able to happily keep in touch with friends and family I have known for years and years all over the country—it is fun and entertaining— so I signed up and if I dont like it, I can dump it. No one is forcing me to do this, just like no one forces me to post here or on AP.

In the interest of staying positive, it's too bad 3985 isn't mentioned.

People forget that technology is almost always a double-edged sword. People haven't paid attention to how data has been weaponized REGARDLESS of which side you are on? What if Facebook data reveals that only "fanboys" and "retired folks" are interested in the UP Steam Program, not the general public? Lance Fritz now has definitive data to discontinue the UP Steam Program as "niche" that does not help UP's bottom line. For example, UP Steam Club must provide data that railroad customers are more likely to do business with UP over BNSF or other railroads without a steam program.

I'm not against the idea of the UP Steam Club hosted by Facebook, but let's put aside delusional arguments to promote false enthusiasm.

As someone who is approaching 76, I totally embrace all the new technology that I can afford. FB lets me talk to friends across the US, and talk to those in Europe, New Zealand, and Australia about our shared interests. Seniors desevedly have a bad rep when it comes to change and moving forward. What are they afraid of? Hopefully, I'll never be in that boat!
