Steam & Excursion > 4014 updates?

It’s been a while since the photos came out showing the front engine being rolled under the boiler. Is there any new info out there on how the shop is progressing?

I do wish they'd provide some kind of a schedule for the activities. We're planning out vacation around the Golden Spike ceremony and are kind of winging it since nothing has been released yet.

a special will arrive from the east as early as the  5th likely  the dates the 10th  soo, maybe another special or two and display at where, Ogden depot?

Can you be a little more specific on where and when? It is rough to get time off, airline tickets, motels and car rentals with such vague details.

A special arriving from the east on May 6 - IN OGDEN OR CHEYENNE?

It’s cheaper for us to fly into Denver and drive than it is to hit salt lake. We are looking at coming for the 150th but also been keeping an eye out for test runs. I figure the engine will have to get out before they pull the actual trip for the gold spike stuff.

Always fun! Most hotels in Wyoming and Utah are selling out for a
loco that hasn't steamed in decades and is months away from testing. Gotta love it.

Can...will...the UP print out a schedule of dates and loco movements so people can make plans, rather than sleep in our rental cars, and live in McDonalds’ parking lots for days on end.  Help us out UP.   Please.

In the past, UP steam schedules  were released in March .  IMHO,  don't look for a definite schedule from the UP until some test runs of UP 4014 are made .

        With the history of the 844 repairs and delays I don't see that the Union Pacific would dare put a schedule out and certainly not for railfans convenience on plane tickets, motels or anything else. Just common sense they wouldn't dare do that now days. They used to when they had confidence and trust in the steam program situation. Now days they just cannot stick their collective necks out any further than their shirt collar.

My suggestion for Ed & Co.:

Contract with the best special effects shop in Hollywood. Smoke generators wired into the steam lines, and the smoke stack. Put a brand new dismal or two in the consist and push the damn thing.....

Check out Mitch Goldman's neat EBT shots, for the price of the 4014 rebuild one could have bought the EBT and gotten a good
start on rebuilding it!

If you have not bothered to book a room yet, be prepared to anti up some Benjamin's  as rooms are hard to get in Ogden. 

I reserved a May 9 room in nearby to Promontory Logan, UT for a great price. May 9 would be the only solid date so far, given May 10 is set in stone. Other than that, looks like van sleeping to stay mobile... === === = === JLH

Save money and rent an RV. Why suffer when you don't have too?

I made a family trip out of it, and reserved some nice rooms in Layton. We're gouing to hit the museum at Hill Air Force Base, too.
