Just a sample of Ernie's photography can be seen at the below link. It is the 40th Anniversary of the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic RR in 2010 and includes two nights of slide shows of its founding. Ernie's slides make up quite a bit of the event and are recommended viewing on a long evening or a weekend. It is beyond amazing what two people (Ernie and Terry Ross) plus a support group of dedicated volunteers accomplished first to save the 64-mile railroad (with 9 engines and 140 cars) and then to actually open it. The challenges seen and overcome in his photographs are more a part of the late 1800's/early 1900's railroad lore and have been seldom found in late 20th century RR history.

I received an email this p.m. that Ernie's widow could use some assistance in paying expenses related to his death. There's approximately $8,900 that donors and friends can help with. A trust account has been set up through Mr. William Lock, Attorney at Law in Albuquerque. Bill Lock (as he is known) is a friend of Ernie and family, the founder of the Friends of the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad and currently a director of the organization. If you so chose to help, a donation can be sent payable directly to William J. Lock Trust Account at 5732 Osuna NE, ABQ, NM 87109. If you have questions his phone number is 505-880-1200 and his email is lgllock1@comcast.net .
