I've been on a tear of slide-scanning lately, so I figure I might as well show some here.  I'm sure some readers remember some of these trips well, and not all of them fondly.

1)  Milwaukee 261 at Deshler, Ohio returning from its duties on the 1994 New River Train.

2)  SP&S 700 and SP 4449 doubleheading at North Bonneville, WA for the NRHS 2005 round-trip to Wishram.

3) Frisco 1522 enjoys a sprint near Annada, MO on May 31, 1997, but it would not last.  This was supposed to be the start of a grand tour on BNSF's Employee Appreciation Special but chronic bearing overheating forced them to turn back at West Quincy.  A frustrating downer of a day for all.

All three are quality images, but my choice is the MLW 261 image. Thanks for sharing them .

Isn't that the trip for the 1522 where they had to park on a siding and cut out a part of the track structure to make a drop pit of sorts to deal with problems on the pilot truck. Maybe even did the roller bearing conversion at Galesburg shop at same time? I'm sure Don will correct my story.

It was not this trip. On this one they found -- through many stops and inspections and restarts and stops and inspections and restarts -- that when speed got much above 35 a pilot truck bearing would overheat.  It would not act up under that speed so they turned back at West Quincy and trotted back home at 30mph or so.  That's my recollection of that day, anyway.  As you say, surely Don has a more vivid recollection of this trip.

That was back in the fall of 1990. They cut out the track to make drop pit and after they replaced the bearing it failed again. Then they went to the BN Galesburg shop and had it fixed there. Good coverage of it in Pentrex title (Best of 1990).
