For the historians, or the simply curious out there, the trail to the right side of the train is the original alignment of Highway 17 over Cumbres Pass.  The old road crossed the tracks just around the curve.  In the early 1980's, the crossbuck was still there.  The highway was re-aligned to its present location in 1969.  The old road was never paved and was always closed in the winter.  That was one of the reasons, the narrow gauge lasted as long as it did.
