Good for you. Experienced steam engineers need to post their experiences and remembrances for the other posters to enjoy. So please left us enjoy your inputs. I was a steam engineer from 1964 thru 1998 and enjoyed the Hades out of it. It was in maritime service but certainly enjoyed steam locomotives as a visual delight.

I guess I'm a bad person because I "only" take pictures and talk (or in this case, write). Where do you think the thousands of dollars I and others of similar interest go? They first go to tour organizers who in turn pay the various railways for the use of their locomotives of the purpose of taking photos. Don't think for one minute the railways are doing this at a break even cost. They should be making a profit. And hopefully those profits are being put back into the railway infrastructure rather than lining some owners pockets. There are many aspects to this wonderful hobby. To each his own. But how about not being critical of those who enjoy different aspects of the hobby than yourself?  BTW, a major locomotive ownership group is in my trust. So we each contribute in different ways.
