Southern Pacific Steam Locomotives at West Oakland
Author: MartyBernard

These were with the photos the late Key Route Ken sent me.

1. SP 4417, 4133, and others at West Oakland, CA in July 1955, Gary Meyer photo.

2. SP 2471 at West Oakland, CA, Gary Meyer photo.

3. SP 2488 at West Oakland, July 1955, Gary Meyer photo.

4. SP Shop Switcher 217, a 0-6-0T (the T stands for tank, her water and fuel oil are in saddle tanks atop her boiler adding weight for traction and keeping her short so she can fit on the turntable with another locomotive she is moving) at West Oakland in July 5, 1955.  In this photo she is moving a locomotive by its tender.  A Gary Meyer photo.

Enjoy,
Marty Bernard

Must have been hard for the engineer to be hanging out the window all the time to see where he was going with the Tank engine.  Also, where are all the covered wagons?  Guess maybe they were working the Hill out of Roseville.
