Strasburg has spilled the beans... Four weekends at Strasburg from late September into October. Lerro Charter the second weekend.

I don't seen anything on Pete's web site about a charter at Strasburg. I would be surprised if he would be doing anything with the 611 there other than some staged night shots. It's obviously not authentic to the line and there is no proper equipment to match. Having seen it on the main line at near track speed with a mostly correct red train (the first of the three recent years at Roanoke), I feel this wouldn't be worth the cost and time to get there. That said, having it run anyplace is better than nothing. Especially for those who have never seen it in action or just want a nice train ride behind a big locomotive.

I'm guessing Pete will have information up either tomorrow or this weekend, as the announcement was supposed to come tomorrow, but someone at SRR jumped the gun.  Not a mainline charter, so nothing stopping them from bringing in some more correct N&W passenger cars that aren't Amtrak certified.  NS has obviously given this their blessing, so wouldn't be to surprised if the two Powhattan Arrow coaches ended up in Strasburg, the possibilities are endless.  No matter the equipment, I'm sure Pete will put on a world-class charter, as he always does.

I believe that information has already been discussed/explained on the other thread concerning movement of 611 to Strasburg.

Yes and no.  There are no y's, and Strasburg does not own a operable turntable.  There is however a turntable across the street at the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum.  It has been used in the past to turn equipment, but I'm not sure if it is currently in a operable condition.  This would in theory allow them to turn the J for different events, assuming the relationship between the museum and Strasburg is on good terms and table is in operating condition.  It is a 100' table so it should be able to fit the J.  It also makes for some interesting ideas for night photo sessions with the numerous PRR steam engines at the museum.

The only turntable is across the street at the Pennsylvania R.R. Museum and I'm not sure how often it is used or whether or not they would use it for this special event.

While it is neat to have the J come there, a 5 mile up, 5 mile back trip might not sell....

As to the turntable, do the people at the museum not play nice with Strasburg RR?

Apart from the Colorado narrow gauges, how many steam engines operating today *are* authentic to the line on which they operate?  Not Strasburg, not Grand Canyon, not TVRM (and I know you were on that Lerro charter), not the Valley, not Western Maryland Scenic...you get the idea.  So who cares?

Booked  611 Engineer time and a cab ride in 475 and hotel near by for Oct 20

I got a 30 minute throttle time slot too. It'll literally be a childhood dream come true. 

Hopefully this works out well for Strasburg and VMT. Assuming all the 611 cab experiences sell out (and they will) that one weekend will bring in almost $47k without even running a train!

Some folks are NEVER happy!

We had planned another Tennessee Valley trip for this time frame, but unlike my usual tendencies had yet to book the hotel rooms.  It would appear that a change of destination is in order.

It really depends on how much rain we have during the Summer and early Fall.  The best showing of Fall foliage would be the last weekend of the 4.

I’m hoping 611 can book an outing on a longer railroad. I think this is really great, but it’s a long way to drive to see her run such a short trip... still, I’m glad they will have her back out. Maybe she’ll come south yet! Too big for TVRM. Pretty sure she wouldn’t clear that tunnel.
