Steam & Excursion > What? No pictures of the Skookum yet today?Date: 03/15/19 13:44 What? No pictures of the Skookum yet today? Author: Jim700 Yesterday we had great weather for the first day of the Trains Magazine four-day charter on the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad bookending Winterail 2019 and, excepting a late-in-the-day hot bearing on the Skookum’s tender which was taken care of on the road, there were no troubles.
Probably the best public-viewed show of the day was the awesome outbound, TT westward movement through the Rockaway Beach area as hundreds of clueless tourists, as well as following railfans, enjoyed the spectacle. JJ led the parade running the Polson Logging #2 pulling a mixed train, I was following him running the McCloud #25 cab hop, and Scott brought up the rear running the CRBL #7 Skookum pulling a log train as we passed through the area with about a ¼ mile spacing of the trains. With almost two dozen road crossings located along the nearly three-mile-long tangent route immediately adjacent to the parallel US Highway 101, the three locomotives provided quite a symphony of sound to wake up the community. I had to skip the event due to some illness in the family but figured it would be well covered here, but so far nada. Looks like the weather was glorious. However I am finding a lot of pix of green steam engins on RP, all from the UK.

Martin's use of the phrase "running the charter" refers not to his being a member of the OCSR engine or train crews but to his managing the whole Trains Magazine charter operation.
