Skookum on March 15, 2019
Author: WoodwardEJ

First we see a still shot south of Wheeler, OR on the afternoon of March 15.

Then we have
a couple of short iPhone videos taken near Foss, Oregon earlier in the day - first the whistle, and then the train.

We felt lucky to have Skookum running on March 14 and 15, and hope that she will make another memorable appearance on March 18.

Still haven't seen a video where she is working enough to even hear the exhaust

SKOOKUM is without a doubt, the quietest steam locomotive I have ever seen.  Awesome running, very beautiful and very quiet.  No huffing and puffing with this little lady. I'll try to post a video of her sitting very quietly just steaming with very little noise.

Niles has a good continuous grade and some heavy rolling stock. I suspect you'll hear more from here there.

A compound loco will always be a bit soft-spoken....

Maybe a compound the size of Skookum, especially without a heavy load, but the N&W Y Class compounds sure were NOT "soft spoken".
