Did you know about the Altoona Mirror article on 2/3/19, with quotes from Bennett Levin?
Did you know they recently got a $10K grant from the Emery Foundation to complete the tender restoration?
Or do you post the question because you're hoping someone will give up a big secret?
I really wonder about some of you people in this hobby.

Seems like the original poster has asked about 1361 every couple of months for several years now. They don’t seem to seek out info on their own

Well, there you have it!  When something of importance happens, the folks behind the current 1361 project will surely release a statement, and then it will be announced also here on TO.

What people?  It was a fair question.  If you get annoyed,
just scroll past it.  If you have info to share - as you did,
share it.  I visit several sites but had not heard about the
grant for the tender restoration.

Incidentally - and, no doubt I can look this up myself and
then let everyone else do it too - but, I thought a lot of
the tender was rebuilt - foggy memory, but seems almost
all restorations these days start with a "new" tender, as
I thought I recalled that happening with 1361.

For the umpteenth time...the project is now under the leadership of Bennett Levin and Wick Moorman. They will make public announcements when they have something to announce. Until then be grateful that 2 such outstanding men have committed themselves to finally getting it done right.

I agree.  I think people should be free to ask questions without being bothered, no matter what it is, (as long as it is legit and railroad related).  As far as not doing research on your own, some of us are more than happy to fill others in on anything and everything we know.  As far as I am concerned, ask away.  I often get the answers I seak from other people's questions on this website.  When I want info, I come here first.

All well and good, except that the same one or two guys keep asking the same question about PRR 1361 over, and over, and OVER, every month or so. What part of CO614's answer, over, and over, and OVER don't they understand?

The part about tender grant that I had not heard about despite
perusing the 'Net profusely.  I for one I missed that.  Still question
it, didn't get around to verifying it, though a quick look (really
quick) on RP suggests the tender had been pretty well restored
recieviing new "lower" sheet metal panels and was "simply awaiting
paint".

It is also quite possible someting was announced on Facebook
and there are some (myself lately) that rarely browse the site.

And lastly - who knows, maybe someone had /has a photo to post.
My last visit to the Railroader's Memorial Museum in Altoona was
almost two years ago and before it was announced that a new
effort was in progress.  Wonder if anything has been moved?
Maybe someone will post a pic.

This thread reminds of two quotes:

"All good things come to those who wait."

"A watched pot never boils."

Revising the second quote for this topic "A watched* locomotive boiler never steams"

* Watched = repeated inquiries

That does not bode well for UP 4018...
(I mean, UP 4014!)

Most railfans appreciate and enjoy being "in the loop".
The half that clicked on this thread, for instance, lol.

No such thing as a stupid question - Wikipedia

"(There's) no such thing as a stupid question" is a popular
phrase with a long history. It suggests that the quest for
knowledge includes failure, and that just because one person
may know less than others they should not be afraid to ask
rather than pretend they already know.

Yeah I don’t see 4018 being under steam in my lifetime ;-)

Save your lectures for someone else, son, I don't appreciate it.

I was simply responding to your lecture.  I really wonder
about some of you people in this hobby.

Anyway - no disrespect intended and I'll add, thanks,
despite your implied frustration with post, you did in fact
answer it with what was, at least to some, new info.

Any details in regards to the tender grant?  As noted,
it seems as if the tender was pretty much restored,
including new lower sheet metal panels during the
previous restoration attempt.

Ross,

Are Moorman  and Levin doing this as a favor to fans... with no monetary consideration? Just wondering why the poster should be "Grateful"

Dave
