UP 844 and Bob3985 pics with very litte info
Author: oyw

An old customer of mine who will soon be moving out of state, gave me some prints of UP 844 taken by his brother from Nebraska. Most are detail shots of the running gear but there were a couple overall shots I thought I would share here. I did the best I could scaning from small prints but I can tell it was a fairly lengthy train stopped at Gibbon. The engine was renumbered to 844 after mid-1989 and painted black in late 1991 so it had to be sometime in the early 1990's. I really have no other info.

1) An overall view of the train.

2) The Gibbon station sign.

3) Bob3985 smilin' big.

Thanks for looking,

OYW

Thanks for posting the photos. We had the 8444/844 in two tone longer than it was in regular service.
Actually it was the Spring/early Summer of 1987 when Lynn, Ron and I prepped and painted 8444 into the two tone gray paint scheme.
When we pulled 844 out of service for its class inspection in October of 1991 was when we stipped it and brought it back out in April 1996.
We fired it up and took it out on P-4 to check out the work that had been done and it was in its stripped (almost camoflage) mode after which we painted it back to black.

That's my favorite paint scheme of 8444/844.  Would be a good candidate for a heritage scheme.

With the school bus in the background by the engine that could be one of the River City Round-up trains when we picked up school kids and relayed them between towns between Omaha and North Platte.

Yep, that Monday, thing I really got upset with was my principal said she came through Sunday, I wish I told him that Sunday was still the celebration at LAUPT, but from what I heard those 2 engines got a lot of attention by causing I15 traffic to just stop in both directions!

Nice shot Red, I do say the best shot I saw which I had to save was Huskerherb, he was over there between Blue Cut and Keenbrook and shot both side by side, I told him he had the best seat in the house!
