Diesel has not provide ANY propulsion since about Laramie.

Speaking of smoke, the UP engines used to smoke a lot -- both 844 and 3985.  How did they clean it up?

Smoke equals fuel going up the stack, unless your sanding the flues.

1. Better fuel.
2. Burner maintained at original specs, not steam cut.
3. Better firebricking layout.
4. Better firebox air inlet plan.
5. Better front end exhaust nozzle setup.
6. Better firing practices.

All need to be there to see cleaner firing and significant fuel savings.
