Steam & Excursion > Late to the Big Boy Party, But Worth the TripDate: 05/19/19 19:23 Late to the Big Boy Party, But Worth the Trip Author: TheNavigator There’s been a lot of great coverage here of 4014 and 844’s run from Cheyenne to Ogden and return, but I hope you don’t mind a belated series of (maybe too many) photos of this never to be repeated event.
By the time I intercepted the westbound train in Weber Canyon the weather had already turned cloudy and overcast, so this group of shots begins at Ogden moving east, where the weather was unusually cooperative. I’ve always been a fan of UP steam but had not done any chasing for something like 20 years, so it was good to get out and about again to shoot a favorite subject if only between Ogden and Granger. Thanks for looking, and thanks to all the other posters for the photos and videos. GK 1. Preparations for the run from Ogden to Evanston on May 12 are underway at first light. 2. This location didn’t turn out as well as I’d hoped, but at least there was no chance of getting blocked by another train and very little chance of other people invading the picture.
4. A closer shot of both steam locomotives at Castle Rock. 5. Upon arrival at Evanston, a mob scene that was typical of every location along the way where a stop was made. Your photo of the arrival made me smile, I was standing in the same spot 2 years ago when I chased 844 from Ogden to Evanston. And yes, chasing Big Boy this year was totally worth the trip.
