Steam & Excursion > This Steam Powered Train Moves Through Town Almost Unnoticed!Date: 07/08/19 02:52 This Steam Powered Train Moves Through Town Almost Unnoticed! Author: LoggerHogger In 1946 when Western Pacific #84 and her short passenger train made it's way through Oakland under the Adeline Overpass there were few folks on hand to watch her passing. Can you image the crowd that would be there today to watch this same train?

Author: lynnpowell Isn't that the "Feather River Express", the all stops train between Salt Lake City and Oakland? (Predates the Zephyrette.) The train has just left the WP's Oakland station, about ten blocks behind.

Until seeing this photo with a passenger train on that track, I never realized how sharp that curve was. Date: 07/08/19 09:44 Re: This Steam Powered Train Moves Through Town Almost Unnoticed! I haven't seen many photos showing WP's Mechandise Dispatch boxcars in service. So cool!

Jim Baker Riverside, CA Date: 07/08/19 19:54 Re: This Steam Powered Train Moves Through Town Almost Unnoticed! Author: Elesco I would describe the location as the throat of the current UP yard.
It's interesting that the curve coming off the WP is still there, although it dead-ends before reaching 3rd St. and appears to be part of the AMTRAK maintenance facility. Toward the south and west is a large container loading facility for ships. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/08/19 20:05 by Elesco. The large brick building in the center of the picture is also in Martin's photo.
