The Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad's Polson Logging Co. #2 steams up in front of the Tillamook Air Museum blimp hangar on the morning of July 3.  Do they keep it inside?

We do keep a couple locomotives stored in the Blimp Hanger.  #2 has been in there for storage from time to time when she is not in use.

Would be an undertaking along the lines of 4014 to get that back in the air. Took a tour of it a few years back, know that Conroy did the mod and is structurally sound but seeing the insides looks like a movie prop.  The hangar itself is something to behold also well worth a trip to see. Those are some BIG sliding doors.

The hanger is all wood construction.
I question the judgement of having a live steam engine inside, sparks from exhaust soot or whatever would be a fire risk.

From an oil fired steam locomotive?

They can emit carbon sparks but usually only under heavy load.

An N-Scale locomotive just does not belong on a G-Scale layout!

For some perspective. The doors on the hangar are 120 feet tall. Each of the door panels weigh approximately 30 tons. The top of the building is approximately 200 feet above the floor. The building is 1000 feet long. On days when the doors are open and the if the steamer is switching out near the POTB office you will get two echos off the building. One from the front and the second off the back wall of the hangar.

Cool picture. I think I read somewhere that the blimp hangers in Oregon are the largest wooden structures on the planet.

The hangar is quite a sight to take in from the exterior and interior, here's a view of the locomotive from about a month ago. Alex
