Steam & Excursion > U.P. 3985 highballing past Aikens Station in Kansas in '01Date: 07/09/19 15:18 U.P. 3985 highballing past Aikens Station in Kansas in '01 Author: JoCoLB Smoke was billowing into the sky as Union Pacific Railroad steam locomotive No. 3985 was pulling a westbound passenger consist past Aikens Station, a few miles northwest of Emmett, KS, on Nov. 3, 2001. The train was en route back to home base at Cheyenne, Wyo.
I believe Aikens Station was a longtime cattle shipping point until the U.P. eventually discontinued livestock shipments. I have no other history on Aikens, which is in the middle of cattle pasture country. The nearest town is a few miles away. (Photos by Larry Byers) Edited 2 time(s).
