It's just shadows. No cylinder head covers.

Didn't look like it to me. The cylinder head covers were not installed when she departed Cheyenne (see the great photo of her on Archer Hill, posted the other day). Besides, I think she looks better without the cylinder head covers anyway.

In the video, is that a blow down happening, between the cab and tender?. Also, where are the hopper cars?

Yes.

It would seem that the steam would be a little more high pressure than that, no?

Exhausting 300 psi boiler water to the blowdown discharge pipe results in about 22% of it flashing to steam, and the rest falling out as hot water.

Yep your not seeing things thats the blow down piping that was done. You mean those "loaded hopper cars". Set out at North Platte most likely.

Since the moderators have chosen to lock the 3 page thread on 4014 pulling freight up Archer Hill, I'll state hear that all 21 of those covered hoppers were in fact EMPTY! Contrary to what "waterboy" posted about them being loaded with cement, I had a friend at the UP run the freight consist of that train, and confirmed that all 21 cars were empty, thus totalling only about 630 tons.

Wow so truth comes out, I'm not surprised. Thanks HW for the info. I'm not surprised by this on bit. Train consist's don't lie.

While as a steam person, I am glad that the Big Boy is restored, I am not glad the lying continues. In the thread on Archer Hill, I implied the cars were empty. Instantly pounced upon. Cement, then sand, now nothing in them. Also, shouldn't the 4014 have them in tow all of the way to Omaha, where I am very sure that the passenger consist will be hooked up. So from North Platte to Omaha, no assistance for braking? Or is she going to run at 40 mph only?
