Once again, why the speed restriction on 4014? Assuming the freight was doing 60, looks like it is poking along at 40. This is also seen on videos of this trip on U tube.

Nice flying there Tex.....

That is the sorriest looking excursion train that I've ever seen, it sucks UP put that policy in on a desiel with every steam engione, but for only a 3 car train too? Give me a break!

FYI, out at Brady the railroaders knew this area as the "Buttermilk curves".

UP doesn't want a breakdown, so a diesel goes along. IowA Interstate runs their excursions both ways, so the diesel is on the back one way. Today, UP 1943 pulled the Big Boy to home plate in Omaha, but still had 8167 on the train.

It’s not an excursion train - it’s a deadhead move to Omaha where they will have an excursion.  If you’re not happy that there’s a live Big Boy running around the UP system in 2019, you’re probably not going to be happy about anything.

Just curious, but how does a diesel in the consist help prevent a "breakdown"?

Perhaps he meant to say they don't want a disabled locomotive tying up the railroad?  That would seem a logical conclusion.

Well, over some 40+ years working with main line steam, I seem to remember more breakdowns with the damned diesel/diesels than with the steam locomotive.

The diesel is available at a moment's notice for protection/backup power.

You would probably complain if you got hung with a new rope, and old expression from my dad. Can YOU do any better????? I bet not! UP is doing a fine job, it's their railroad and they know what they are doing. UP is not running this train to satisfy you by running what you want to see. Enjoy it while you can. If you want something different, put up your money and do it...
