Just a sampling of the huge crowds that came to St. Paul Union Depot to see 4014 yesterday.

Today she travels to Duluth for a visit to Lake Superior Railroad Museum and will appear tomorrow alongside operating engine DMIR 332.

A tornado outbreak and derecho are forecast for the area between the Twin Cities and Duluth today.  Hope everyone stays safe.

Looks different, without the V that it had to Ogden and back!

It got washed off during the heavy downpours coming into Mason City on Tuesday the 16th. During a very brief stop in Manly on Wednesday the 17th, Ed came down and re-chalked it on the smokebox front.

It was off at Cheyenne before departure. Test runs on 4 track in my pics are without also. Must have been added prior to departure.

Jack, Ed told me that rain had washed it off and that he wrote it again.  It's chalk, not paint.

Darn. They should have left it off, in my opinion. Maybe it will rain some more prior to it arriving on the former C&NW three track main line at Elmhurst, IL, on Friday July 26.

Interesting you would call a "Big Boy" a "Her".   It's not a "HeShe" it's a "Him"

Nope!  Just like ships, RR locomotives are referred to as "she" and/or "her".

BTW, "Big Boy" is also chalked on the other end of the boiler - on the firebox door.

Now, I suppose that information will arouse more undue cynicism.
