I look forward to seeing and riding behind it sometime.

Chris Date: 07/21/19 05:40 Re: SP KLM 4000 9010 Photo Runby Author: wcamp1472 Is that a fully-functional, “powering” diesel-hydraulic , or a rolling (engine-less), non-powered ‘dummy’?
If it is fully functioning, with an original, operational prime mover, then that’s a REMARKABLE ACHIEVEMENT!!! A much harder accomplishment than a comparable restoration of a complex steamer! Wes Camp ( Wouldn’t tne post be more correctly titled as a “K-M” ( Krauss-Maffei) manufactured locomotive?) Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 07/21/19 05:57 by wcamp1472. According to another recent thread, for the moment it's a dummy, but only because the one restorable prime mover (which runs but was spitting oil) is out for a rebuild: https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,4831547 Date: 07/21/19 07:34 Re: SP KLM 4000 9010 Photo Runby Author: wcamp1472 That’s great news—- But, most dismals are like that. They’re good at ‘spitting oil ...’
When it all comes together, that’ll be quite an accomplishment.... I gather that the ‘pieces’ (many one-of-a-kind) magically came together ...from around the world.. That could make a great story.. Congratulations are in order... W. Date: 07/21/19 08:31 Re: SP KLM 4000 9010 Photo Runby Author: HotWater I have a few questions concerning the various diesel hydraulic units owned by the SP:
1) How many of the actual K-M units, (which were manufactured in Germany?) did the SP eventually own? I seem to remember that the SP purchased the ones that the D&RGW had for awhile. 2) How many diesel hydraulic units did the SP purchase from/through Alco? I assume those Alco units had an Alco prime mover. 3) The beautifully restored unit in the above photo, is one of the "original" K-M units with the Germany diesel prime movers? Is it one of the "original" SP units, or one from the D&RGW? Thanks. Date: 07/21/19 08:48 Re: SP KLM 4000 9010 Photo Runby Author: rbenko HotWater Wrote:

One of the original SP units - the DRGW units were all full cowl units (like an F unit) - SP 9010 website BTW all this info was found with about a minute worth of searching - the World-wide-web is truly an amazing tool! Thank you. I posted those questions here, so that other folks, that may be as uninformed as I about those units, would also see the answers. It's actually nice to know the answers to a few questions that people ask here on TO - usually it's the other way around for me, especially when it comes to steam subjects. You and several others on this board are the undisputed masters here of first-hand steam knowledge, and willingly share much of your expertise with the faithful, which I greatly appreciate. I just mentioned the part about the web to remind all that many answers can be quickly had with just a few keystrokes. However, I do agree it is nice to have it all in one place, especially with that place being TO!! Date: 07/21/19 15:05 Re: SP KLM 4000 9010 Photo Runby Author: nycman Shot at Niles in 2014. Wish I could remember the name of the gentleman who was working on the 9010 at the time. This is a truly special restoration.

Agreed about the organization - I am proud to be a monetary contributer to this incredible restoration, and have followed the progress of it for many years via the internet. I hope to see it sometime live, if I can drag myself to the west coast! Keep up the great work!! Date: 07/21/19 15:15 Re: SP KLM 4000 9010 Photo Runby Author: HT6 nycman Wrote:

> That could make a great story.. Bob Zenk wrote a book about SP's K-M's in 2014 that included the first phase of 9010's restoration: http://sp9010.ncry.org/book.html I understand it's now out-of-print. Any hope of an updated second edition, Notch16? |
