Dashing throught the Corn!
Author: twjurgens

Actually, it was more of a lope rather than a dash.

Fellow TO members scotty, trainmanwes, and I joined the throngs chasing UP's 4014 across western Iowa yesterday.  Don't know when we might get a chance to see this beast in person again so we take advantage of every opportunity close to our home turf!  Despite the on and off clouds, we were lucky to get at least a little sunshine at each location we chose to stop.

These shots are at the N33 road crossing west of Glidden, IA.

It's mind boggling how much corn they grow back there.  When I rode my bicycle across America in 1994, I remember almost going crazy slowly passing endless fields of corn.  The only that saved my mind was being able to meet and talk with people about every 15 miles, and seeing the CNW coal trains go by with their unique sounding horns.

I remember at one point in Indiana passing a....................TOMATO FIELD!!  I stopped and couldn't believe my eyes.  It was a grower for RED GOLD tomato paste / sauce.

Good job on picking your location to fit the "local color" of the area.

Photo one is my favorite because you caught her between the two grain elevator complexes.

That corn is about two feet short for this time of year, does make a nice shot though.

So much rain this spring that there was late planting all over.  Plenty of places along my run in Mississippi are even further behind, as the fields looked like lakes during the normal planting season.

Nicely done, one of the better images I've seen from this latest outing.

Saw a lot of examples of this in Illinois during our 4014 chase. One notable location was along Nelson Road near, you guessed it, Nelson, IL. Corn on one side of the road was six feet tall and looking good. On the other side of the road, it was maybe three feet high.
