The Sunday 4014 Chase
Author: twjurgens

This is the sequel to what was started at this post:  https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,4843385

A change in the 4014 schedule allowed for a later start for us on Sunday, August 4.  I help with video at church on Sundays and worked an early service so the schedule change was great for me!  The usual suspects, Ken Church and fellow to'ers scotty and trainmanwes, gathered at the Jurgens abode a little after 8:30.  We loaded our gear and headed to Waverly where we joined santafe199 who had spent the night in our "luxurious" accomodations but left early to get a jump start on railfanning.  At Waverly, Scott joined Lance to keep the crowd in each vehicle at a comfortable level.  We stayed in touch through the entire trip to Grand Island but wound up shooting at different spots until we got to Grand Island.

We had decided to try for our first shots of 4014 somewhere between Valley and Fremont so headed north out of Ashland along the BNSF Sioux City line hoping for some trains there.  No such luck!  So, we headed over to Valley.  The group in my trusty Explorer decided on Mercer, mid way between Valley and Fremont as a location so we set up there.

After we got our shots at Mercer, we leapfrogged the Fremont stop and got shots 2 or 3 miles east of North Bend (second shot).

Our next shots were at the east edge of Central City.  (third shot)

First, one more view at Central City.

We were able to leapfrog the train at the Central City stop and have a little time to pick a spot near Grand Island where Scott and Lance joined us. (fifth shot)

The train was to tie up at Grand Island for the evening and there would be no public display.  Lance had business elsewhere and wasn't going back to Lincoln so we decided to call it a day here.  We had lunch at a local Pizza Hut and were joined by another friend to swap stories.

A great day!

Your pictures answered a question in my mind whether or not they left any of the passenger cars behind in Council Bluffs/Omaha.

Hummm...   A Big Boy in the corn fields.  Yup,  it reminds me of Sherman Hill!

Your third photo is awesome and could be an IOTD candidate.

I concur! Very nice composition, and those dumpling clouds provide a killer background...
