Steam & Excursion > Skookum at Niles CanyonDate: 08/12/19 09:01 Skookum at Niles Canyon Author: jimB This weekend, Skookum (Columbia River Belt Line Railway 2-4-4-2 #7) was operating Saturday & Sunday during its guest residency on the Niles Canyon Railroad. These shots are Sunday. The first two shots are backin down light following the regular train, first passing the wig-wags at Brightside and second at Farwell. The third shot is waiting to couple onto the USN GE65T at Niles.

Nice pictures. Date: 08/12/19 10:57 Re: Skookum at Niles Canyon Author: jimB Thx. I corrected it.
Jim Date: 08/12/19 12:40 Re: Skookum at Niles Canyon Author: JimBaker Point to remember, GE 44 Tonners do not have front and rear platforms.
That is the quuickest check to ID them. ==The other Jim Baker James R.(Jim) Baker Whittier, CA Date: 08/12/19 18:14 Re: Skookum at Niles Canyon Author: SPB Nice shots. The Skookum is certainly one clean steam locomotive.
Gerry Date: 08/12/19 22:51 Re: Skookum at Niles Canyon Author: weather Hi, Jim, I now Chris and others at PLA were working on getting the Skookum to steam better. Is that all behind them now?
Date: 08/13/19 08:27 Re: Skookum at Niles Canyon Author: jimB Mike, it would probably be best if one of them responded on that, since I don't have first hand knowledge. It looked like it was doing pretty well.
Jim Date: 08/18/19 16:42 Re: Skookum at Niles Canyon Author: jkh2cpu Love the second shot: it really shows off the
beauty of the livery, and the fine work done during restoration. That loc is a charmer. John. Date: 08/18/19 18:52 Re: Skookum at Niles Canyon Author: wcamp1472 The biggest improvement to getting it to “steam better”. Is take it from a ‘soaker’ to superheated..
Even a modest amount of superheat would be really noticeable...You don’t have to heat as much “fresh” water and the draft can be stronger, burning a hotter fire.. IMHO.. W. |
