I just talked with the 4014 Big Boy Excursions. I was told that the Sunday Barstow 4014 Excursion Seats are now 1/2 price!  The coach seats are now $350! I'm going now, are you?

I would be VERY upset.

This is just like any other event like sports, concerts etc. The closer to the event it gets the unsold seats get cheaper. You can be upset but that's just how it works sometimes

Several days and classes of tickets are discounted now!!  GO FOR IT. Proceeds go to Railgiants Museum to preseve RR collection.

The dome seats are down to $550!!

Some societies still refuse yield pricing as a mainstream practice, and leave that scheme-pricing to the grey and black markets.

If people just accept it ("that's just how it works sometimes"), then we get what we deserve. If people have the collective discipline to hold out, the prices might go lower, although it's nothing personal against the RailGiants - I hope they find a reasonable price point where almost everyone is happy.

Here is a copy of the email I received proving this has happened, I have already received my credit card credit. The organization did the fair and ethical thing in my opinion:

We are alerting everyone who purchased tickets (before September 3rd) onboard our Big Boy passenger excursion train on Sunday, October 13, 2019.
While Saturday tickets are very popular, many of our Sunday tickets were not selling.
 
Therefore, we’re offering new passengers to ride our Sunday train at 50% off the original price.
  
We are offering our Sunday customers who paid a higher price this opportunity for refund or upgrade.
 
We will refund you the additional amount so that you pay the new 50% off price.  Also, we offer you a limited time opportunity to instead use the money you paid on an upgrade to a higher class on Sunday and receive a smaller refund.  Taking advantage of this price reduction or upgrade will reduce or eliminate your donation (to help maintain RailGiants Train Museum and our non-profit organization) and potential tax deduction amount.
 
If you want to upgrade your seats or waive the refund, you must request this by 4:00 pm (pacific time), or 23:00 GMT, on Thursday, September 5th.  If you do not respond, you will receive a refund to your PayPal account on Thursday.  If you wish to upgrade, letting us know soon can help secure your new upgraded seats.
 
Additional information:

•  Space must be available in the upgraded class on Sunday.
• All tickets you already purchased must be either refunded or upgraded.
• Ticket price you already paid will be credited towards the upgraded class.  Unused credit will be refunded.
