I have one of those switch lamps, in mint condition from the Roseville Yard.

When did they stop lettering the tenders?

Probably because they got so dirty the lettering didn't show upand it saved having to clean them.
The engines were designed for tunnels. I don't recall ever seeing one with tender lettering
and I saw lots of them!

I don't think they ever stopped, but the policy seemed inconsistent judging from photos.  You would be more likely to see the name on tenders assigned to the Western, Los Angeles, Tucson and Rio Grande Division  since these Divisions lacked extensive tunnels and snow sheds. Some assigned to tunnel and snowshed districts may have had the lettering applied, but after a number of trips was obscured by soot.
