I hope a static display of the big 4014 occurs near the LA area Oct 10 and/or 11. Perhaps the Santa Fe Depot at San Bernardino would work, as it is near UP yard at Colton, has display tracks with platforms, has parking lots and a rail museum.
As noted earlier, "tickets are on sale at Railgiants.org for Oct 12 or 13 over the famous Cajon Pass and Mojave Desert between Colton and Barstow on the 4014 luxury 1950's steam train. Breakfast, lunch, gifts, and motor coach are included. Proceeds benefit the Railgiants Museum and engine collection at Pomona. Various classes and seating available. Total time on the train est. 5-6 hours. Total round trip is est. 11-12 hours."

Is there something new added to the schedule? This has been on upsteam.com for a little while now.

Interesting that 3985 is no longer mentioned on this website; just 844 and 4014.

How much digging did you have to do to find that? The only way I found it is by using the search function because it's not listed under the steam heritage fleet

Um good luck with that. It will be in Colton Yard under guard, no public display...

UP schedule reads, "Thursday, October 10 – Friday, October 11, Greater Los Angeles Area, On Display: TBD"

Do a TO search for "3985 Will Not Be Restored" and you'll find out this topic isn't controversial, website or not. The decision has been made that 3985 will not be restored.

Do another TO search for "Viva UP 3985" where UP's Senior VP Scott Moore said so in May. I would have thought that most people who cared about the UP Steam Program would have NOT missed this news, in May and in July.

Now back to your regularly scheduled Big Boy news.

  • Was this a press release from UP posted either on their News Portal or in a verifiable form from Ed Dickens? If not, its conjecture

You're talking to a person who heard 9-10 years ago that "3985 will NEVER run again." That's conjecture, too, but if you've been paying attention to the bubble we live in lately, conjecture is often more reliable than news.

Again, 3985's info being hard to find on UP Steam's web site is NOT controversial. I don't understand why you're trying to hang onto the 3985 under Ed Dickens' leadership... just because he made a false promise few years ago to appease some people?

Go celebrate the 4014.

Your opinion of the current major news outlets aside. I was referring to a Press Release directly from Union Pacific, not a major news outlet.

I'm not sure where the controversial part comes from, I certainly had no issue finding the page. There is no page on the 5511 or 838, how bout we get all spun up about that next.

You and I have information on the 3985. We both claim to have heard it from Ed. You heard your information 9 years ago. I heard my information 6 months ago. I know my motives are clear and I have no bad blood with the current UP Crew. I am unsure of your motives and current status with the UP Crew.

Based on the available information I simply came to the determination that the information I have is 8 years 6 months newer than yours and I know I heard it directly from Ed. I also have no reason to lie or stir up agnst because I have bad blood with the current UP Crew. In short, I feel my information is more credible than yours, and until I see something either directly from UP (such as a PR) or Ed Dickens, Its not logical to change my position.

David

There was no press release when 3985's superheater tubes were pulled out to rot.

Ed Dickens has claimed many things throughout the years. I question his credibility. If you don't, then that's your perogative, and so we disagree. Not that complicated. I have made many comments the past 6-7 years regarding the UP Steam Program, and it seems many have agreed (in public and in private) on what I've opined. Your opinion, valid or not, won't change that.

Regardless what UP Steam has said or hasn't said about the 3985, it is not going to be restored unless there's an official announcement (and budget) that says it will. Right now the focus is on the 4014.

I assume you are referring to the following threads from 2014:

We agree to disagree. I've spoken with him a handful of times and he has stayed true to his word so far, I have no reason to doubt him.

David
