Steam & Excursion > Steam in the Valley - 765 on Saturday Sept 21Date: 09/22/19 19:50 Steam in the Valley - 765 on Saturday Sept 21 Author: justalurker66 The Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society's Nickle Plate 765 steam engine putting on a show at Brecksville (Station Road Bridge) and south of Peninsula (Valley Picnic Area) in the Cuyahoga Valley.
(The shaking on the first segment of video is the train passing by, shaking the bridge where the tripod was standing.) Video at Station Road Bridge was of the morning train. Video at Valley Picnic Area was of the second train of the day. You must be a registered subscriber to watch videos. Join Today! 765 is capable of pulling a train of this length on its own, and has done so on runs where wyes are available (such as Elkhart to Bryan Ohio on NS a few years ago). 765 is also capable of higher speeds as it has been able to achieve in runs out of Chicago where max speed isn't as limited as it is on NS or the scenic railway. Dome cars in back don't offer much view of 765.but I bet the valley looks good. Looked like one open window car, hard to tell about first Pullman.
How long is the trip? Date: 09/23/19 09:22 Re: Steam in the Valley - 765 on Saturday Sept 21 Author: Keystone1 IMHO, the best shot on the line is the first one shown above. You stand on a bridge, to shoot the train with the tall highway bridge, and the reflection in the river. Four years ago when I was out, the bushes and trees made the shot very difficult. With today’s growth, the view is virtually impossible. I talked to a railroader about the railroad cutting down 400 feet of trees and brush on their property. He told me that the libs won’t let them do it. They already tried.

Both of them belong to Midwest Railway Preservation Society in Cleveland. NKP 90 just had substantial body and roof repairs done to it including sand blasting the roof, car body and under frame to bare metal. The 12 tons of blasting media is still shaking out of the nooks and crannies on the car.The brand new paint on the car is very expensive urethane color coat with metal etching primer. We hope that this work will keep the car looking great for many years so that passengers will be able to experience the ride in an NKP car. The John H. Emery Foundation awarded a grant which provided some of the funding for the job, and Robert McCown also made a significant donation. MRPS has asked for a grant from the NKPH&TS which will help cover a portion of the remainder of the cost. NKP 62 and 90 are headed for Cincinnati for Fall and Polar Express trips as soon as Steam In The Valley is done. MRPS plans to do extensive rehab work on 62 when it returns to Cleveland in 2020.

Friends of the river are planning on removing the dam. Their website says that it will be removed in 2019. Our reflecting pool will soon be gone. Plus, the New River trips were at track speed and with substantial grades and curvature. 765 is an incredible locomotive! She hardly breaks a sweat on these trips at the CVSRR, but she still does have some good exhaust sound and the whistle always sounds great in the valley. Posted from Android Edited 3 time(s).
