Steam & Excursion > N&W No. 611 - a few shots from Sunday, the 29th StrasburgDate: 10/03/19 10:50 N&W No. 611 - a few shots from Sunday, the 29th Strasburg Author: Mgoldman Well... I did in fact, finally make it out to Strasburg to see No. 611, a mere hour or so away.
Got there late Sunday at 4 PM, after the Sun came out - though it dissappeared by the 5:30 run. Was glad to make it out - do not believe No. 611 will be seen again on evening runs with passenger cars in consist during the remainder of her stay. Odd, no? Here's a bonus shot - taken Thursday night, 9-19-2019, featuring SRR's SW-8 No. 8618. We were out scouting the line, testing lights for the upcoming weekend charter, No. 8618 was our 611 stand in for the night. /Mitch Date: 10/03/19 11:42 Re: N&W No. 611 - a few shots from Sunday, the 29th Strasburg Author: gregscholl Nice Mitch. I must admit the photos of 611 have been better than I would have thought. Train looks pretty good and 611 looks nice without the water car, tool car and diesels!!! The older cars remind me of the old Cavalier trains 15 and 16 Norfolk-Cincinnati all stations with clerestory roof combine and maybe a coach.
Rest was all baggage head-end stuff. Also rarely see the coupler open on the pilot. It was actually used each trip for tender-first moves. As for 475 I saw it in 1994, and once in Roanoke when I was a kid. 475 and 611 were in the roundhouse in 1959 when our family did one of the last fantrips. The engine was class A 1240 from Roanoke to Bluefield, where Y6B. 2179 took over for a circle trip and 1240 took us back to Roanoke. There were at least 3 engines in the RH with 1240, 611, and 475. My dad had see 475 during the 1957 NRHS convention where they had 3 M-class on one train, including 475 with the fake stack. So cool 475 and 611 were together again. Very limited edition and only a few were left today at the Gift Shop or by phone call to SRR. I bought 2!. Saw others buying 2 or 3 boxcars. rrcaboose |
