I once happened to observe a college student's many do-overs for a video intro... she messed up one little thing on one, and a different little thing on the next.  And then something else...
But EVERY time, she said "Kay-john" (verging on Cajun/"Kay-junn") so if she ever DID get it right, it was still going to be wrong.

In Spanish, "cajon" means box / drawer / coffin...  "cajones" is plural.

They are actual Spanish words.

California was once part of Spain, and many locations have Spanish names.

The Spanish influence only reached as far north as Santa Rosa and was mostly along the coast.  It was the Spanish Missions that caused most of that influence.  Mission Santa Rosa was planned but never built but gave it's name to a city that was built many years later.  It's interesting to see how many areas by the southern border have Spanish names and it fades out as you proceed north.  The north part of the state had not been settled by the time of the big influx of people during the gold rush and you find few names in Spanish up there.

So what made them call the the town "The Box"?  Or is it really that dead it's called "The Coffin?"
