Steam & Excursion > RBM&N 425 excursion this weekend

Hello all,
I am riding for the first time on the RBM&N Fall Excursion behind 425 this coming Saturday. For those of you who have done this trip before, is there anything I should be made aware of before I go? Thanks for any advice and or recommendation's you all can give. Cheers.

Grab a pair of goggles and open the window.  Don't need to say much more than that.

Jim Thorpe is a great destination with a lot of interesting history.

As others have said, open your window and enjoy the train ride!  I am sure they will announce some of the more important sights along the train ride, including the trestle.

Jim Thorpe is often very crowded, especially this time of year.  Lot of neat things to check out within walking distance of the train station. such as the old Carbon County Jail and the Asa Packer mansion.  You could also ride the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway, which brings you into the Lehigh Gorge State Park.  

 

Ear plugs if you have sensitive hearing. 425 is loud!

Here here!!! The four and a quarter sounds really tough when accelerating from a stop, especially when under the control of a Charlie Kochel or Chris Bost type engineer!!!!

Head immediately to a restaurant as soon as the train stops if you want to eat lunch. Everything gets very crowded when a foliage train arrives. Or pack a lunch and take a round trip into the Gorge. Both are first class trips and 425 is a great engine. Enjoy.
