4014 finds a railfan oasis in AZ
Author: Nomad

On RailfanAZ's post a few days ago, Copy19 mentioned some concern that 4014 had run into a railfan desert as it crossed Arizona.  To help allay that concern, I'll show the scene at the Cienega Creek bridge.  I wonder when was the last time this many people were standing on that bridge...

Desert, yes.  Rail enthusiast desert?  Certainly not!

I was a bit surprised they took the slow number 2 track out of Tucson.

Excellent shot. Yes there are people in the photo but not in the way of the train and they are part of the story. Further, the diesel isn't visable and there is even smoke.

Hardyellow Amtrak passed it on the high line.

Thanks...
Very few times did I ever go East on the No1 Track... usually if I had a Z Train. It was much faster.

Drove over it on my way to another spot just down the road. It was very difficult trying to get through there with all the people trying to park, getting out of their cars, and standing around on the bridge. Felt really bad for the people just diving through trying to get somewhere who had no interest in seeing the Big Boy.

I feel sorry for the people who don't know what they are missing.

Wasn't it like that when 4449 went through there back in 84?

Thanks!  I agree, to me the people are part of the scene here.  I got my "no people in the photo" shots elsewhere.

Don't know if they were there yet when you passed by, but eventually a couple sheriff's deputies showed up to help direct things.  I was surprised by how quickly I was able to get out of there after 4014 passed by.
