At Least The Steam Shop Crews Here Had Time For Some Humor!
Author: LoggerHogger

The Southern Pacific's steam locomotive shop in Sacramento was certainly a busy place in 1945 given the demands that were placed on that railroad by the War.  Literally hundreds of steam locomotives arrived at this shop through out the War to receive all levels of Class repairs so they could head back out and resume their duties on both passenger and freight trains.

SP 0-6-0 #1251 is in for heavy repairs her self in 1945 when this photo was captured of her without her tender in the shop area.  When we look close at the front steps of this engine we can see that one of the shop crews has taken the time to add some humorous artwork to her while her repairs are underway.

This little touch reminds us that there were no robots at work here, just real men, some with a sense of humor.

Any chance we'll see something like that chalk art on the Big Boy?

Hey Z - where would I find it up there?  I will be up that way next week; I'd like to see it.  Is it in the V + T shops up there?

SP #1251 is at the V&T shops in Virginia City.  Her tender was last parked at Scales siding down the hill on the line to Carson City.
