Steam & Excursion > A Classic Scene Of Steam Railroading With A Mixed Freight!Date: 11/21/19 03:05 A Classic Scene Of Steam Railroading With A Mixed Freight! Author: LoggerHogger There is something about shortline steam railroading that stand apart from all other types of railroading, especially in the days of steam. Combine that with the timeless charm of a mixed freight and you have captured the heart of many a railfan.
We have just such a scene before us. The date is the early 1960's and Sierra Railroad's Baldwin 2-8-0 #28 has stopped her mixed freight at the site of the old Sierra depot in Sonora, California. The depot burned in the late 1940's but the matching pagoda-roofed storage shed built by the railroad still survives. The train is returning from Tuolumne with and excrusion when it stopped in Sonora to meet a Sierra Railroad freight truck as seen on the right. All to soon the train will whistle off and be on her way. For now we simply can drink in the scene before us. Martin Edited 3 time(s). Last edit at 11/21/19 03:18 by LoggerHogger.
