Kids and Steam
Author: burlingtonjohn

On 29 Jun 19, this young man and his family were at the Durango Colorado depot inspecting Durangon & Silverton #476 and train. The dad saw me standing there and said they'd move so as not to block my shot. I told him they were fine, besides, I enjoyed watching the little boy (maybe 2 or 3?) and his reaction to the locomotive. To say he was excited would be an understatement. As I grow older, I couldn't help but wonder if in 50 years he will be as excited about trains as I've been all my life.....

Regards,
Burlington John

Reminds me of times with my dad and grandfathers; now I get to take my grandkids to watch trains.....and the circle continues....

I have only my grand father to blame for my love of trains.  Bless him.

Yes, sometimes you want people in your photos.  But I thought the yard was closed to passengers. The woman standing on the right of way probably wasn't the best idea. Last time I was there we had to be accompanied to be in that area. Hopefully the policy has changed?

It is not closed at that point. The walkway leads from the museum/roundhouse back to the depot and no escort is required when going to/from the roundhouse/museum. And she wasn't standing on the right of way. Following shots show her clear.

Sometimes people make the shot more interesting.

It is hard to explain to "outsiders" that steam locomotives are actually alive! No two steamers, even  from the same class run identically!
