In The Middle of Nowhere, Nevada, Between Wendover and Wells, Nevada, 1992 on the ex WP Main, 3985 is working up the grade in style,as the UP Steam Crew has her operating as she should,with Very Loud Stack Talk as the old expierence witnesses on hand this day would profess to, and is very profound day of my life, never to be expierienced again!

Great looking train. Too bad they can't do a similar consist with the Big Boy.

Yes its a great looking train why post the rest?  Cant things posted be enjoyed without a comment like that?

So,,,,,,,we are not supposed to acknowledge that the passenger service boxcar got scrapped, they no longer carry the souvenir car, and there is always a diesel/diesels?

This train, counting the water cars, is 20 cars long.  And no Diesel to be seen.   We will never see this again so it is wonderful that the occasion is preserved for all of us who could not be there to see it in person.

I guess it goes along the same lines of rainbow consists, aux tenders, and Amtrak diesels behind other excursion engines. At least it's all still yellow.

Great video of that train taversing Arrnold's Loop over Silver Zone pass!

Great location, Great exhaust sound, good looking train, constantly working upgrade.  Great choice of spots.  I think you posted this before, but thats okay.  This rerun I gladly watched again.

They did, with Big Boy, about 20 or more cars, from West Colton to Barstow and back, for Rail Giants Museum, in October.

Except,,,,,,,,,the diesel/diesels did most of the work!

And HotWater.....What about the Sherman Hill excursions?   6 or 8 photo stops at excellent locations for the light...EACH one done two or three times!   I flew out to ride a lot of them...NO NEED to chase. You got wonderful photos by riding the train and supporting the sponsoring club with all the smokey runbys.

RR   such a great video, I have watched it again and again.  the sound surely is incredible, the location/scenery of the loop, your location was and recording---all were excellent

Now that she's retired there never again is  the thought  that  next time she goes there I have to be there as well

Is this Loop still in use?

He is right.  I did 2 such fantrips to Laramie, 1987, and June 1988.  Each trip we did 12 runbys!!!  No water cars, and about 12 cars.  Start-ups, and fast ones.  Good stuff.  12 shots doesn't seem like much for a whole trip, but you could chase and get 3-4 good ones and the rest mediocre.  Lee always put on a good show with Lynn and Bob K working the engines.  We chased 8444 from Portland to Cheyenne in 1989, and were getting shots about 50 miles apart as they were running 70+!  I plan on posting a pacing clip sometime of 844 doing 65!!!  Nobody was chasing as it was a non-fantrip op!  UP fantrips always provided some great action for the money!

Jack the diesels did all the work on cajon (run 7-8). Very good video's thanks for posting. The 3985 will be missed. Hopefully

Its a valid comment with valid observation. The scene in this video will most likely never happen with baby big boy (4014) since it has to be babied everywhere is goes for whatever the reason due mechanical problems or the operator.

Thanks Doug, Greg Scholl, and everyone else, I had plenty of time to seek out and practice my location shots here a few times, a few months prior to this event, since I drove right by here on I-80 several times a month doing my route work.
Also used a "zoom" long microphone attached to the video cam, and the good sound stayed good during the transfer from VHS to Digital, even though it is Mono, not Stereo, but I think the digital conversion software turns the sound into semi-fake stereo?

Doug: I'm sure the loop is still in use, but I heard the xing to access the center of the loop has been removed or blocked?

When it went to Portland in 2010, we managed to pace most of the way from The Dalles to Boardman. Our speedometer showed 60-80 mph pretty much the whole way.
