Steam & Excursion > The start of the 2-10-4'sDate: 01/06/20 20:39 The start of the 2-10-4's Author: tomstp The first 2-10-4 Texas & Pacific purchased is easing its train past Dallas Union Terminal with a east bound freight. pulling an auxiliary water car with the valve gear set full forward. It has apparently come out of the shop recently judging by the cleanliness of the paint. The first 10 engines could not be fitted with the flanged stack in view of the Chambers throttle housing just ahead of the stack. Shop forces have added a second sand dome above the firebox. The rectangle brass pieces on the pump shields are stamped with the date that the cylinder valve and piston packing was renewed. There are 10 places of those brass pieces.

Date: 01/07/20 14:25 Re: The start of the 2-10-4's Author: tomstp There are 10 bars seperated to two pieces (5 one side and 5 on the other) on each pump shield. So including both pump shileds there would be 20 places to display the dates. Sorry about the confusion.
