Durango Silverton RR
Author: Steamhak

Hello
I am trying to book online for this summer excursion, web sight does not seem to be working.
My wife mentioned she heard "Bankruptcy" since the Feds have sued the RR over the fire a couple
of years ago.
I hope this is not true.
Info would be appreciated.

They plan to run this summer and expect "...to start taking reservations in a few days..."
according to Jeff who answered their phone today.

What would the town of Durango be like without the railroad?

Well, I remember some 20 or 25 years ago, when I was planning to retire from EMD, we looked into relocating to Durango and me going to work for the D&SRR. Conversations with the railroad folks was very pleasant, and then my wife began looking into real estate, i.e. a nice place to live with affordable taxes and living expenses. THAT research pretty well killed the idea of moving to Durango!

My story of riding the D&S Photog Special some twenty years ago crossing 550 and here's the real estate office,
"Nice 3 BDRM, 3 BA, $595,000", your analysis was right on!

Booking motel/hotel rooms during the peak season(s) can be very difficult.  You'll need to nail down lodging as well as tickets on the train a couple months in advance.

I learned this the hard way!
