Between Their Daily Runs Steam Power Could Usually Be Found Here!
Author: LoggerHogger

The service track for any mainline railroad in the steam era was usually a busy place.  That was certainly true as late as September 1956 at Southern Pacific's servicing facilities at Tracy, California.

Gordon Glattenberg was on hand on that fall day to record SP #4455 and #2484 taking on water, oil and sand before their next runs.  In less than a year, these facilities would have no more steam locomotives to service and they would fall into immediate obsolescence.

For now, let's remember it as a busy place.
