WOW! That's a surprise, as the UP reportedly said that they would handle no more equipment belonging to that organization. Date: 02/26/20 19:29 Re: SP 2472 Move Author: SGillings Did one of the two groups piss off UP and, if so, which one? Also, if that is the case, what was the issue?

Link? I couldn't find anything. Posted from Android Date: 02/27/20 08:33 Re: SP 2472 Move Author: Spikes Please - all the details on any 2472 move - why, where, when ,etc. thanks.

Date: 02/27/20 13:16 Re: SP 2472 Move Author: callum_out If they really cared about PSR, they'd supply a pilot and let the museum fire up the diesels and haul the 2472 to S'Ville (nyuk-nyuk).

Reported on Altamont Press, the locomotive/locomotives will be placed on the interchange track for "pick up" by UP on Saturday. Waybills are reportedly already cut. Thus, neither the pistons nor the valves move. Date: 02/28/20 21:34 Re: SP 2472 Move Author: Hillcrest To re-enforce, there's a photo on facebook of 2472 with all the jewelry, main rods and eccentrics removed. Post says it moves 2/29.
Cheers, Dave Date: 02/29/20 12:30 Re: SP 2472 Move Author: Elesco Obviously they can't move very fast. The main drivers are severely overbalanced, with all of the reciprocating mass and much of the rotating mass missing.

Well,,,,,,,I wouldn't say "severely overbalanced", but only the heavy end of the main rod and eccentric rod are missing, i.e. the side rods are still in place. Thus, she should be good for 20 to 30 MPH. |
