Florida East Coast/U.S. Sugar Co. 148

The Facebook page for FEC 148's restoration posted a picture and brief announcement that they steam tested the boiler today. Quite an accomplishment, considering all that's been said about her pre restoration condition over the years. Congratulations to all involved!

Mostly likely the only steam locomotive fired up in the USA.

It's beyond me the lack of interest in this. FEC 148 was a pretty well known locomotive, both for its earlier service and its very worn condition. This restoration was more extensive than most and yet it gets almost no discussion...I don't get it. There are photos on another site dated 3/6/20 of 148 sitting outside the U.S. Sugar shops, painted and lettered. She looks spectacular.

Cheers, Dave

Because this locomotive is in the southeast. Florida in particular.

If this nice pacific was near the pacific the interest would be off the charts.

I'm hoping for some excursions through the sugar cane when restoration is completed and we get back to normal from Corona.

Sad we can't have 148, 153, 113, and 750 all next to each other under steam (sigh).

As cool as that would be, we do have that poor beat down 148 looking like Brand New (aside from the lettering) as a result of a really extensive/expensive overhaul by a private company. Very impressive and certinly worthy of a tad bit of recognition...

Cheers, Dave

I believe the lettering on the cab, consists of raised numbers that will be repainted.
