Some Locations Were Just Made For Steam Motive Power!
Author: LoggerHogger

The sight of one of Southern Pacific's Cab-Forward locomotives at the base of Mt. Shasta in Northern California is one of the all-time classic scenes in the age of steam in the West.    The majesty of the snow-capped mountain with the power of the #4165 powering her west-bound freight in this snow covered region simply takes one's breath away.

Note the World War II era blackout shrouds over the headlight and classification lights.

Beautiful scene.  I'm imagining the whistling air pump exhaust as the engine drifts downgrade.
