Steam & Excursion > A Friendly Waive From This Locomotive Really Makes The Photo!Date: 05/18/20 03:35 A Friendly Waive From This Locomotive Really Makes The Photo! Author: LoggerHogger Back in 1948 when this photo was taken on the Hawaiian Island of Kauai, there were likely not many railfans that visited the Grove Farm Company operations and their narrow gauge railroad. This may explain the very friendly greeting from the engineer of Grove Farm #4.
The little 30" gauge Baldwin had been built in 1893 for the Hawaiian Sugar Co. as their #3. In January, 1943 she was purchased by Grove Farm Co. and given the name, "Waialeae" along with the #4. It's hard to know which is more charming, the little 2-4-2T or her friendly engineer. Martin Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 05/18/20 03:47 by LoggerHogger. Author: asheldrake I continue to be impressed with how much of a parallel history the PNW logging and sugar cane indusries have.....although they didn't share disconnects........GREAT picture.... A good reason to visit Cuba and some of their defunct cane factories......Arlen.
