Steam & Excursion > A year ago today ... Steam on Sherman Hill

May 19, 2019 saw the return of steam back to Sherman Hill.  The UP 4014 and 844 made the run from Laramie
to Cheyenne on that morning.  As it turned out, the weather played a key role in providing some dramatic background
for the two steam locomotives.  I picked a spot on Monument Road where Tracks One and Two are visible as they
approach the summit of Sherman Hill.  Most folks just blew on by and headed down to Dale Creek Crossing.

The UP Mainline was shrouded in wispy, low clouds that developed as a weak cold front hung up on the summit of Sherman Hill.
The clouds, cool temperatures, and filtered sunlight did their magic to enhance the 4014's and 844's appearance as they
pulled the grade east bound towards Sherman Summit.  Certainly a fitting tribute for the final day of the double header steam
excursion ...

On the trip West,there was brilliant sunshine on Sherman Hill, and cloudy overcast through Echo Canyon.  On the trip East, there was brilliant sunshine through Echo Canyon, and cloudy overcast on Sherman Hill.
