McCloud excursion, Sept, 1983
Author: roustabout

Sept 24, 1983, McCloud ran and excursion with #25 out to Hambone and back.  We drove in to McCloud that morning and found their prairie getting ready to back down to its train at the depot in town, so I snapped off a grab shot.  Well, I think it pretty much sums up the whole McCloud experience.  I have been going through my slides, scanning them and rediscovered this one today.  And I had to stop and ponder it for a while, with Mahlon standing in the cab, the mountain and that fine little locomotive.

It was always good to get Mt. Shasta in your shot with McCloud #25.

I like them both. Photo two is a beautiful scenic image.

Nice photos of the #25. This had to be the 80's - back when it seemed every short line had a fleet of box cars.

The McCloud experience was unique and the scenery was extraordinary.

We were for sure standing next to each other for your shot, Martin.  What a shame that that very scenic place for rail photos is no longer available to us.

I agree Jim.  I am glad you made to some of my trips when I was running them.
