A lookback at winter
Author: Bob3985

Slipping back to 1992 on our trip to CSX  I happened to capture a shot of 3985 departing east out of Kansas City on the old MoP at Lee's Summit, MO.

Nice, Bob. Plus, there were plenty of nice photo opportunities down on the Clinchfield RR.

Really nice Bob.  The shot has a lot going for it...snow, a grade, and nice plummage!!!  Back in 1984 with my first video camera we chased 8444 for two days from Omaha to St. Louis in March.  The second day was like your shot, out of KC, and we shot about 5 pics all day, then headed for Ohio.  This was the World's Fair train.  Your shot reminded me a lot of that day in 1984.
In 1992 I shot a fair amount of 3985/676 in November.

This trip was a memorable one for Jack and I as we set the backing up record on the Clinchfield.

Sounds like a great story in that statement. Do tell.

Beautiful shot, Bob.  Steam and winter go well together.

Mark, that story is way too long for on here at this time.

What a great picture!

I remember that trip.  I was train manager for the St. Louis Chapter NRHS, who sold the tickets.  It was a blizzard in the open-door baggage car.  That afternoon Steve Lee stopped for a photo runby in Hermann, MO - barely enough room for everybody but it worked.

The next day from St. Louis to Poplar Bluff, MO was an absolutely gorgeous fall day.

Thanks for the memories.
